Invertebrate photo page

This was going to be an insect photo page until we took the final image of a pretty snail at Much Wenlock. Largely thanks to advice from my friend Roger Farrow, some names have been able to be added!  The first two were illustrated on a leaflet i picked up somewhere as Six-spotted Burnets (Zygaena filipendulae), Roger advised this is similar to the cinnabar moth Tyria jacobaea that feeds on ragwort and has been introduced to OZ and NZ for biological control.  With that link made, it was very interesting to come across this article in the Guardian linking burnets, cinnabar moths and Wenlock Edge - the latter geological feature being very close to Tugford where we spent the second half of the trip.

A fairly typical dipterid IMHO
A bee!
A fly!
This is a caterpillar of a cinnabar moth.
The hoverfly is Episyrphus sp.
